Missy Bausman
Melissa Bausman is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Reflexologist at Arabella Salon in Piqua, Ohio.
RBA: What does holistic living or self-care mean to you? Do you consider self-care a priority in your everyday life?
Missy: Self-care to me means anything I can do to keep stress at a minimum daily. I regularly partake in Reflexology treatments, Chiropractic care, and Reiki treatments. Daily, I try to focus on breathing and posture.
RBA: At one time you had a full-time job that brought with it a lot of stress into your life. Is this what prompted you to learn Massage Therapy?
Missy: It certainly did. I learned the hard way how stress can take a toll on your health, and I made the choice then, that I needed to go on a completely different path. Now I understand, at a deeper level, that I was led to be on that path.
RBA: Do you believe that part of your life’s purpose is to contribute to others’ (namely your clients’) well-being by providing them with a place to connect and enhance their sense of well-being?
Missy: I’m a firm believer that our bodies can do a lot on their own to heal and bring calm to our lives. What I do during a massage/Reflexology session is just tune into what may need to “wake up” in your system to guide you back onto a path of “well-being”. The beauty of working on clients repeatedly, over time, is that I can usually feel from session to session if something is different.
RBA: As a client, when I walk into your massage room, it is instant calm for me. I am so grateful to have you as my Massage Therapist. Is your massage room decorated with the intention of helping your clients slow down and relax? If so, it works for me!
Missy: Yes, it is! Thank you for your appreciation of the massages!! Each workday when I walk into my massage room, I feel at peace. How lucky am I to have such a peaceful workspace! When a client is receiving a treatment session, I want them to let their stress and tension be forgotten. The lights are dim, the music is soothing. When we are finished, they can step back into their day and take some calmness with them.
RBA: What advice would you be willing to share with anyone who may be planning to become a Massage Therapist or Reflexologist?
Missy: It’s never too late to make changes along our career path. I highly recommend schooling in Massage Therapy or Reflexology. I went to school for it in my 30s (with no prior medical experience) and although challenging at times, going back to school led me to my life now and I absolutely love what I do! Take a chance, you may be surprised at how Massage Therapy training can change your life.
